FAQs

What experience is necessary in order to join?

No experience is necessary. We support players of all levels.

What do the registration fees cover?

Registration fees are set to cover coach wages, field rental, tournament bid fees, and administrative costs.

Do you a have a need-based scholarship or pricing structure?

We make every effort to accommodate Hydras families. Please contact our Manager for details.

How is playing time determined?

MS/HS: Playing time is determined via coach discretion and generally based upon three key criteria: player effort/involvement, skill, and attitude. During developmental play, the coach may opt to create equal game-time play opportunities. However, equal play is not guaranteed in any situation.

How will the team communicate throughout the season?

Communication is done primarily through Slack. You will be invited to the appropriate channels after registering.

We will occasionally send emails about upcoming events and news of direct interest to our current families.

Text alerts will only be sent to announce last minute changes in a same day event such as weather cancellation or updated directions to a field.

Phone calls will be the means for emergency communication during events.

When will the IMSL, Post Season and HSDL game schedules become available?

Triangle Ultimate creates the schedules for IMSL and HSDL games. They are typically available 1 to 2 weeks before the season start date. Hydras have structured the practice/game commitment days such that games (with extremely rare exceptions) should not occur outside of those days.

What playing equipment is required?

Elementary

Cleats are recommended but not required.

Middle / High School

Cleats are the only required equipment. Cleats from any sport (soccer, football, lacrosse, etc.) are OK, however, no metal spikes are permitted. During winter, many players also use compression shirts and pants for warmth and friction gloves for better disc handling.

Why do players need USAU affiliated membership?

Mainly for insurance coverage. Hydras Ultimate qualifies for program insurance through USA Ultimate (USAU) only if all of our players have USAU membership.

How do I obtain USAU membership?

Go to the USAU membership page for both first-time membership and membership renewal.

If your player does not have a USAU membership, follow the instructions on the USAU membership page and purchase an affiliate membership referencing Triangle Ultimate.

All memberships run by calendar year and must be renewed each December in order to continuing playing with Hydras.

Please note: The membership application process for U-13 players cannot be completed online. Instead, you are required to email, fax, or use postal mail to submit your membership application. As such, the process takes a bit longer, so please register for USAU membership as soon as possible once you know you wish to participate in Hydras Ultimate programs.

What are the age requirements for the different divisions?

Learn more about age requirements for our Elementary, Middle School, and High School teams.

Can non-homeschooled students participate in Hydras Ultimate programs?

Elementary

Any elementary aged student may join the Hydras Elementary program.

Middle / High School

Non-homeschooled students will be considered for the program if there is space available on the teams after all interested homeschooled players have registered, and they meet at least one the following criteria:

  • Players attend a school that does not have an ultimate team currently active

  • Players attend a school with an ultimate team that does not participate in the Triangle Ultimate School Leagues

  • Middle School (U15): Fall and Spring Club Seasons - Any player regardless of school are welcome to play with Hydras!

  • High School (U20): Winter and Spring Club Seasons - Any player regardless of school are welcome to play with Hydras!

Will late registrations be accepted?

Elementary players are not required to register at any particular time but it is much easier for the Hydras if elementary players do commit to the entire season and pay in one installment.

Middle / High School registrations are late if not received by the stated deadline. Late registrations will be considered for enrollment on a case-by-case basis if space is still available in the program selected by the registrant.

Uniforms will not be guaranteed to late registrants accepted into the program.

No players will be able to take to the field with incomplete registrations. No exceptions.

What is the refund policy?

Unless injury is the reason, once the registration deadline has passed, no refunds will be given.

When will we know about bad weather changes to the schedule?

Decisions will be made as soon as it is apparent that it will be unsafe to play. Communication will be sent by noon on the day of the event.

What if I’m no longer on the team and want to visit Hydras during a practice or game?

In order to play or  participate with the team, we need several things.
First: Contact the team manager before visiting to ensure it’s a good time. Once they confirm, proceed to step 2.
Second: Complete our Code of Conduct form, which the manager will send you via email. You only need to do this once per season.
Third: Provide your USAU number to the manager so they can add you to the event roster and ensure you’re covered by insurance.
Fourth: Upon arriving at the field, check in with the team manager to let them know you’re there.
