A note about competitive vs. recreational play

Winter is middle school’s competitive season when we play official games against other middle school teams. In practice and games, our emphasis will be on spirited, fun, competitive play. Practices will include a fair amount of physical conditioning as well as mastery of Ultimate skills and strategies essential to our success.

Our most competitive players will have more play time during the games; we will likely have 10-12 players who will play the majority of points. When those players are tired, injured, or absent, or when we are winning by a lot, we will call our reserve players into the game. Our goals are to play each game to our best ability as a team, to learn from our successes and mistakes, and to always show good spirit whether we win or lose a game.

If you have any questions about whether winter season is a good fit for your middle school player (or if it makes more sense to wait until the next recreational season) please contact us. We are happy to discuss it and provide our observations.
